RIVERS & CANALS
The Vistula
The biggest of Poland's rivers, the Vistula, is one of the last non-regulated European waterways.
Nature lovers and fans of water sports are very fond of the smaller, wild rivers such as the Czarna Hańcza, Krutynia, Drawa, or Drwęca (over 200 km in length); the latter one constitutes a nature reserve along its whole course. They are considered to be the most picturesque kayak routes in Poland.
It is a cult river, surely not the longest and not the most difficult one, but enchanting, surrounded with a romantic legend. Moreover, finishing its end on Lake Bełdany – it opens the whole connected system of the great Mazurian Lakes to those wishing to enter it.
The river runs through seventeen beautiful lakes. It sinks into the array of the many centuries old Piska Forrest, where it is easy for us to encounter the snow-white mute swan and the black cormorant, as black as the raven, with the stork and the crane, the heron and the watchful otter.
Its length totals approximately one hundred kilometres. One should reserve 7 – 8 days in order to cover a 90-kilometre route of the Krutynia River.
